See protein alongside your daily macros
Protein tracking is easier to follow when it sits beside the rest of your day. Dial shows your logged protein and daily target alongside calories, carbohydrates, and fats. You can return to your diary to review your foods and portions rather than keeping a separate tally.
Use the targets that suit your circumstances. Dial’s tracking tools help you record and review your intake; a food’s score does not prescribe how much you should eat.
What is Protein Score?
Protein Score compares grams of protein per 100 calories. It helps you compare protein density between foods whose serving sizes or calorie counts differ.
Illustrative nutrition values
A serving with 20 g protein and 160 calories:
20 ÷ 160 × 100 = 12.5. Dial’s rounded score is 13/25.
The score shown in Dial is rounded and capped at 25. A higher number means more protein relative to calories. It is not an overall food-quality rating: foods also contribute carbohydrates, fats, fiber, and other nutrients. Compare the nutrition and serving size that matter to you.
Choose a logging method that fits the meal
- Search foods: find a food and check its portion before adding it.
- Scan a barcode or label: review the matched product or recognized nutrition values.
- Use a meal photo: check estimated ingredients and portions.
- Enter nutrition yourself: use values from a label or another source you trust.
- Reuse recipes: save a recipe and return to it for another meal.
- Describe it to Claude: connect Dial, review a draft, and confirm the save.
These methods all contribute to your Dial food log. The Claude guide explains how to connect your account, review an estimate, and correct or undo an imported meal.
A simple routine to try
- Check your daily target in Dial.
- Log a meal using the method that works for you.
- Review the portions and nutrition, especially for scans and estimates.
- Return to your diary to see your logged protein and other macros.
If something looks wrong, check the food entry and serving size rather than treating the daily total as exact. Estimates depend on the information provided and the source used.
Protein tracking questions
Does Protein Score change when I double a serving?
If both protein and calories double, the ratio stays the same. The serving contributes twice the protein to your daily total, but its protein per 100 calories is unchanged.
Is Dial only for protein tracking?
No. Dial also tracks calories, carbs, and fats, with saved foods, recipes, targets, weight, and goal progress.
Can I log protein through Claude?
Yes, with an authorized Dial connection. Describe your meal, review the proposed foods and nutrition, and confirm the save. A separate Claude account is required.
